Progress Report 1 (week 15)
This week involved some very fast progress, and a lot of new techniques learned.
After blocking out the shape of the head, the first step was plotting the datum (the line above the nose) as a reference point to measure from on the reference images and sculpt. Then the nose and mouth lines were plotted in before being sculpted.
Once the nose and mouth were correct I added the basic shape of the eyeball, and then added the eyelids on the top with thin clay like a blanket.
Having never sculpted a to-scale realistic human head or face before, the techniques for doing so were all new, especially the measuring and scaling as most sculpts I have done with clay previously had no need to be so accurate.
I did have some issues with slightly exaggerating features from looking at the reference images, and I am hoping to improve on this by looking at the references more. I also need to decide if I want to add in an iris and pupil to the eyeballs or not.
