Although it was not next on my priority list, I felt that having just finished one clay model I should keep up the momentum by making the other next.
Instead of having to make a former for the inside of this model, I could just skip right to using the compass and styrene shapes to form the varying shaped domes for this model - 3 different sizes in all. I traced the plans onto the plywood base and placed the domes onto it after. I used leftover wood to create stamps for each of the different doors and windows - 3 types of door and 4 types of window, and pressed them into the wet clay.
Once the domes were dry I rolled and cut out the corridors that linked them, using the door and window stamps on them as well.
Once the clay was dry I used orange acrylic paint to add the details to the model that matched the pictures. I used grey and black card, and more of the balsa wood for the windows and doors, sticking them into the stamped holes I had made earlier.
Like the other model I added sand to the base and wire trees; sand was also added to the roof of the building as this is what was also shown in the photos. I also used some of the corrugated metal that I got for the Permanent Camping model to create the awning outside of the front door of the building. The plans also showed that each dome had sets of holes in the roof, likely ventilation holes. I used my hand drill to bore the holes into each of the domes.
