Model Progress pt.2 (week 32)
After a little delay my mahogany pieces finally arrived this week and so I got to glue them to the model. Unfortunately there were a few very small gaps, something that likely would not have been the case if I had access to the tools to cut them myself, but most fit perfectly with some sanding.
I sculpted the new jackal head for the drawer knob (seen in the picture above which I will be gluing the sculpt to), and the painting process went much smoother this time, I painted the details in gold, and glazed it, to make it look like an Ancient Egyptian statue.
After I had painted the game pieces grey I realised that they looked very flat, so I have speckled them with lighter and darker grey tones, and glazed them to seal the paint in.
The drawer fits perfectly into the board, and that is where all of the game pieces, dice, and instructions will be kept to avoid any getting lost.
I spent some time thinking about painting the dowel on the top of the board and the inside of the drawer black, but doing so would add nothing to the teaching value or interactivity of the object, which is it's main purpose, nor would it add to the historical accuracy, which is a less important aspect with this model anyway.
All that is left to do before hand-in is to finish cutting, sanding and gluing on the dowel, and painting the details on the unique game squares explained in the rules. I am confident that this can be done before the deadline.
