Commitment Poster (week 21)
This week we were tasked with making a poster to showcase our final essay topic, discuss the topic in a little bit of detail, and list a few questions the essay could answer.
With a topic chosen, I now need to start researching the topic in depth to inform both my essay and the model I will make. That research will likely begin with 'The Engaging Museum' By Graham Black, a book about creating museum exhibits built around visitor interaction. I also plan to use museum websites, such as the Natural History Museum and Science Museum to gather examples of effective interactive exhibits.
As for the model itself, I plan to make something that ticks all of the boxes; simple, interactive, fun and educational, which will be quite the challenge!
The first example of interactive models that comes to my own mine from museum visits in the past are 'feely boxes' or 'mystery boxes'. a box with a fabric covered hole to push a hand through and feel the hidden object inside. That object can then be revealed in some way such as a clear window in the back of the box. These models created a sense of apprehension and fear in a safe and fun way, as well as presenting a mystery to be solved. This is just one idea for a possible model, and I will likely gain more examples and ideas as my research continues throughout the spring break.
